Milan, December 13th, 2012

The new Sergio Rossi Spring/Summer 2013 collection, inspired by the Memphis Milano design collective, is given an exceptional backdrop at the Galleria Carla Sozzani, with an exhibition highlighting the dialogue between fashion and design.

The installation displays historic design pieces from the Galleria Memphis di Milano alongside the new Sergio Rossi collection.

Reliving ’80s optimism, the exhibition-event features black and white and daring multicolored graphics.

What’s more, to mark this important occasion, the 10CorsoComo Milano store is selling some pieces from the Sergio Rossi SS13 collection between December 12th and 24th, 2012.

At the same time, some of the Sergio Rossi collection is on show at the Galleria Memphis Milano, in Via della Moscova 27, for the whole Holiday period.

Memphis was an ’80s cultural phenomenon that revolutionized the design world. Beginning with a cultural movement launched by Ettore Sottsass and a group of young Milanese architects and designers, who were quickly joined by some of the most internationally well-known designers, Memphis really broke the mold when it came to home design.

With Ettore Sottsass as the group’s main figurehead, design acquired a new expressive conception linked to new forms, new materials and new patterns, breaking through the limitations previously imposed by the industry. The Memphis movement became the almost legendary symbol of “New Design”.

Its influence is still clear to see today in a wide range of production sectors and beyond.
