Sergio Rossi Men’s Fall / Winter 2012-13
A new form of “intimate” nomadism. Sergio Rossi’s Creative Director, Francesco Russo, continues to push the aesthetic boundaries. Formal footwear is the framework for this collection: iconic styles such as “derby” shoes, ankle boots, slip-ons and loafers preserve their traditional allure made in precious skins and classic tones. From these benchmarks of absolute elegance, a stylistic journey sets off combining contrasting elements: east meets west; street culture goes bourgeois; work runs with play.
The brogue and the ankle boot with elastic inserts pop with accents of brightly colored rubber soles in striking color contrasts reminiscent of CGI videogames. Scuba gear details find their way onto rugged combat boots and “military” footwear. The classically rebellious biker boot assumes an ever-more practical stance when hybridized with traditional Japanese work shoes hitting an even higher luxury benchmark when topped with a wide fur cuff. The Sergio Rossi man fearlessly flirts when skins traditionally-associated to women’s shoes come in styles of soft calfskin heat-embossed with large stars or “tilapia” fish skin laminated with an armor-like finish.
The collection is defined by a radical, raw, even “crude” effect: materials have an unfinished yet malleable look. Color is faded at the toe and applied to create nuanced shading topped off with a special waxing process. Deliberately imperfect details come in the form of uppers nailed with studs, a raw-cut welt or heat-embossed effects. Sergio Rossi’s long-standing, artisanal expertise combined with fine, Italian, handmade craftsmanship reveals an unexpected uniqueness for Fall Winter 2012-13.
