Who has inspired you in your life and why?
A lot of people have inspired me. A quality I respect a great deal is the courage to be different or do things differently. People like that may spend more time in pain, especially earlier in life, but it simplifies things later.

How did you turn your vision into reality?
We had to learn how to do as much of the work as possible on our own (design, user experience), then we found the best people to partner with to round out our skills (engineering, finance, analytics, etc).

What are the words you live by?
Many! One that comes to mind is "never ever give up"

Suzanne by Leonard Cohen is in my head and I can't get it out!

Claire Distenfeld is the founder of the luxury boutique Fivestory in New York.
Fivestory is cut from the same ilk of concept stores such as Colette in Paris and 10 Corso Como in Milan, designed by Ryan Korban, the traditional Upper East Side brownstone presents a mix of eclectic offerings, a direct reflection of its founder’s impeccable taste.

Who has inspired you in your life and why?
I get most of my inspirations from reading biographies of strong women. Diana Vreeland was someone who empowered herself and others around her with fashion. She was bold and creative and incredibly smart. She has one quote in her autobiography that has inspired my creative process:
What’s extraordinary is the way everything modern fits in with everything old. It’s all a matter of combining. There’s no beginning or end there - only continuity.
Peggy Guggenheim had a lot of the same qualities as Diana. A woman with a clear vision who didn't let anything get in the way of it. They both embodied this feminine toughness - that womanly determination. SO inspiring!

How did you turn your vision into reality?
I think the most important thing is to keep a great support system around you…And by system i mean friends that support you and a team of people who are good at all the things your not. Take one day at a time. Fake it 'till you make it. Make mistakes, learn from them, repeat.

What are the words you live by?
David Foster Wallace’s Anecdote in This is Water:
There are these two young fish swimming along, and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says, “Morning, boys. How’s the water?” And the two young fish swim on for a bit, and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes, “What the hell is water?”

Leandra Medine is an American author and founder of manrepeller.com, a humorous website for serious fashion visited monthly by 10 million users.

Who has inspired you in your life and why?
Lots of people, many I don't even know -- I am attracted towards people who are unapologetically comfortable in their skin. Who set boundaries for themselves and pay attention to their own needs -- self respect can sometimes be hard, but you can always see it on another person.

How did you turn your vision into reality?
I didn't really have vision, which I think has made growing feel so difficult at times; for me, it was always about injecting humor into fashion and fashion into intellect. I didn't know, or want another way.

What are the words you live by?
Do what feels right for you.

Choose a soundtrack for this day.
I am not very good with music, my soundtrack for life is anything that Claire Distenfeld recommends. She has a great ear.
