Tamu McPherson is an international street style photographer and online entrepreneur. She was born in Jamaica, raised in New York and relocated to Milan 10 years ago.  In November 2008 she launched the street style website All the Pretty Birds.

Who has inspired you in your life and why?
My mother inspires me constantly. She is a wise, generous and compassionate person who has the impressive ability to see the good in every one.

How did you turn your initial intuition and vision into reality?
I followed the wise words and encouragement of close friends who understood my love for fashion. They held the missing pieces to my puzzle and once I recognized that, I put it all together, and here I am today.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?
President of a bank or a Chinese food chef.

Giorgia Tordini is the co-founder, with her friend Gilda Ambrosio, of the fashion brand Attico – one of the most coveted new brands of the season. Attico, the Italian word for penthouse, is a collection of standout pieces inspired by the classic peignoir but designed to be flaunted. Dripping with artisanal detail, each piece embodies a woman from a different city, modern muses with nostalgic cigarette taste.

Who has inspired you in your life and why?
My family. I had strong creative personalities around me growing up. My grandma was an incredible woman and passionate about her work, she was a tailor. Despite her temper she was definitely special and i will never forget all the things she taught me. My dad is the one who introduced me to the fashion world and gave me all the advice about it and I followed into his footsteps.

How did you turn your initial intuition and vision into reality?
By following my instinct. I felt it was the moment to do something personal and put my vision into a project that would represent me so i created Attico with my partner Gilda.
It’s definitely a liberating moment where i can express myself and my creativity without limits.

Best advice you’ve ever received?
Never do something for the approval of someone else.

Who has inspired you in your life and why?
Above all I have been inspired by my family and my closest friends. From my family I have learnt what real love and appreciation are, two feelings that have been inspiring me every day since I can remember: being able to appreciate everything, especially the simplest things, can sometimes give your life a totally different perspective and leave room for what’s really important. On the other side, faithful to the idea that your vibes attract your tribe, I have built through the years a number of close friendships that I actually now call family. In the end that my closest friends, including my boyfriend, are the people that motivated me the most, with a number of successful stories built on the ground of passions and efforts, I am constantly inspired by those people that make me feel genuinely proud for what they have done in such a concrete way and that are eventually the people that I admire the most.

How did you turn your vision into reality?
Manebì was pragmatically born on the vision of an opportunity in the market: we saw the espadrilles starting to come back to fashion and no brand yet selling / focusing on espadrilles with a fashion content. It looks like we were right as espadrilles are now not only back to fashion, but represent a market on their own with basically all luxury brands having introduced them in their collections. Both me and my business partner have a past as investment bankers which certainly taught us to be effective in what we do. It took us very little time since the idea came to our mind, to actually decide to move forward. The rest has been a combination of good execution, luck of course, mixed with passion and dedication whereby basically one day we just started working on it, and from then it was real!

What did you want to be when you were growing up?
I kind of always had the passion for aesthetic in general, but didn’t have a clear view on what I wanted to do when I was grown up. I have discovered my passions while growing, being certainly inspired by my mom (who first of all inspired me to be a mom myself one day) who’s one of the most creative and talented people that I know and spending my childhood doing crafts rather than playing traditional games. I studied business administration and finance with the idea that it could give me more alternative to chose from. When I graduated I have been attracted from the investment banking world as it appeared to be one of the few working environment that was really meritocratic. In banking most of all I have learnt a method that is really effective, but even if my career there wasn’t that short in the end (7 years), I knew that wouldn’t have been my job for life. I believe it was at that time that I became more conscious of what I wanted to do and now I actually do something that I love every day, combining the creative side with the management one, which is my favorite thing.
